Prepare a Quilt for Long Arm Quilting
Whether you are quilting it yourself, or you are sending a quilt to me, here are some steps that will make the process go more smoothly.
Tops
- All seams are stitched closed.
- All pieced border edges are basted/stay stitched.
- No loose threads (front and back).
- Pressed.
Backing
- Backing must be at least 4 inches wider on each side of the quilt top. For example: a 60" x 80" quilt top needs a 68" x 88" backing.
- Pieced backing:
- Remove selvages on sewn edge.
- Lock stitch seam ends.
- Square.
- Trim uneven edges.
- Press seams.
